Remote Field Site
Integration at Scale
Following the acquisition of more than 240 retail assets from Viterra, Agrium faced one of the largest operational expansions in its history growing from 65 to 275 locations across Western Canada. The acquisition introduced over 1,500 new employees and 227 remote sites that required full IT integration, infrastructure conversion, and end user computing upgrades within an aggressive 4-month timeframe. Agrium partnered with WBM due to its deep experience supporting geographically dispersed sites and its existing relationship with Viterra locations. WBM worked alongside Agrium’s IT team to provide the necessary scale, flexibility, and disciplined execution that helped ensure a seamless transition with minimal impact on daily operations.

The Problem
Agrium needed to rapidly integrate 227 newly acquired retail locations and approximately 1,500 employees while completing a full technology conversion across diverse, remote field sites. Asset inventories were outdated, infrastructure varied significantly, and the end user device fleet required a Windows upgrade, all while minimizing downtime within condensed four‑month window during challenging winter conditions.
The Solution
WBM delivered a coordinated, end-to-end remote site deployment strategy that combined on-site execution with centralized planning. A standardized site conversion process was developed and executed across all locations, covering asset inventory, network replacement, infrastructure transfer, and OS upgrades. WBM technicians acted as Agrium representatives on-site, ensuring consistent execution, rapid issue escalation, and a positive first experience for employees joining the Agrium organization.
WBM delivered a coordinated, end‑to‑end remote site deployment strategy built on a standardized conversion playbook that included onsite inventory, network replacements, coordinated Agrium/Viterra NOC site transfers, printer configuration updates, end user device refreshes, connectivity verification, and documentation of outstanding issues. Each site transfer was closed with a Conditions of Satisfaction (COS) survey validating the experience and quality of the project.

The Outcomes
Seamless Site Integration & Conversion
WBM executed full IT conversions across 227 geographically dispersed locations, completing 225 sites for a 99% conversion success rate. Despite delays tied to acquisition timing and the realities of winter travel, WBM and Agrium coordinated schedules to maintain momentum while delivering consistent, repeatable outcomes from site to site.
Maintaining Uptime Through Infrastructure Transformation
A repeatable site conversion process replaced legacy infrastructure and standardized end-user technology across remote locations with minimal disruption. Across the rollout, WBM averaged 38 minutes of downtime per site and achieved 95% first call effectiveness, helping field teams resume work quickly and reducing disruption during conversion.
Asset Visibility & Accuracy
An essential outcome of the project was the creation of a fully accurate and up‑to‑date asset inventory. WBM technicians located, documented, and photographed every device at each site. Capturing serial numbers, asset tags, physical locations, and network room conditions. The result was 100% of assets validated, strengthening governance and lifecycle management with improved accuracy and transparen
A Great First Day Experience
Delivering a strong first impression for incoming staff was a critical success factor. WBM technicians represented Agrium professionally onsite, and each location was closed with a Conditions of Satisfaction survey. WBM achieved 98% satisfaction across 216 complete site surveys, highlighting professionalism, clear explanations, responsiveness, and speed in getting users back to work.
